To make the most out of the horse racing system, you have to know the different kinds of bets. There are a lot and you have to figure out which one works for you. I am very good at Excel. Check out some of my past answers if you like. I have also bet sometimes on the doggies back in early 90's when I lived in Wichita Kansas. Haven't bet on races since. I bet on a few horse races over the years but financials don't really allow it any more!

It will be a combination of two.
One will be the system (which should be objective only; nothing subjective), the other will be your money management method. Regressive if you are a beginner or a problem gambler.
Keep accurate notes. After at least twenty days of success, you may then graduate to a progressive method of money management.
I keep going away from the one that had been the most successful. However, I keep making bad decisions. Find the one you like and stick with both that method and with that money management method.
The best(?) that I found should not be mentioned on such a public document as this Yahoo Answers. I know that problem gamblers will see it and think they have found the key to the bank.
Not good for addicted gamblers.

On average, favourites win about 30% of races but if you restrict it to certain months, say for instance the months of June, July and August for the Flat then you'll find that a higher proportion of fancied runners win races because the ground is usually good or good/firm and, in theory, horses should be at their peak level of fitness.

Not for definite but it would be wise to have an understanding of exactly what you are following and why. You can of course just follow someone blindly and probably pay for it, but why do this when it only takes a moment to understand.
If you search on the web for horse racing systems you will find plenty of sources that are free and will take you step by step through the process of building a system. Others will simply want to take money off you.
So as in any other walk of life, nothing is easy, you have to put in a bit of work if you want to make a go of it.
